Course outline

·         Understanding Insecure Attachment styles – Avoidant, Ambivalent, Disorganised

·         7-piece puzzle and Behavioural regulation

20 minutes of watching videos for home-study needed to prepare for Session 2.

·         Introduction of core skills – communication, empathic listening and reflecting within a Watch and Wonder context.

·         Barriers to good listening.

·         Use of Naming and the importance of this reflecting skill.

·         Introduction to the Watch and Wonder model.

·         Delivery changes to manage post Covid 19

·         Question Technique.

·         Development of empathy in practice

20 minutes of watching videos for home-study needed to prepare for Session 3.

·         Practicing Questioning technique

·         Practicalities of starting a group

·         Establishing Boundaries/expectations, what might you need?

·         How to work in the post session reflections/discussion

Training for Parents including 8 Watch and Wonder practical, experiential Sessions.

Course outline

Session 1 – Introduction, Brain Development and Trauma (4.5 hours)

·         Introduction to Brain Development – The Triune Brain

o    Understanding the Reptilian Brain – Survival

o    Understanding the Mid Brain – Attachment, Emotional and Behavioural Regulation

o    Understanding the Higher Brain – Cognitive, Dissociation and Self-Esteem

·         Dan Siegel – Flipping one’s lid

·         Umbrella of seven areas of impact

·         Wired for Stress – impact of Cortisol

·         David Howe’s research 

·         Introduction to complex Trauma and ACES

·         Introduction to the Window of Tolerance

·         Trauma repaired within relationship and the importance of attunement Dan Hughes

Session 2 – Attachment and Bonding 2.5 hours

·         What is attachment and why it’s important

·         The impact of Different styles of parenting

·         Introduction to the Internal Working Model

·         Understanding what behaviours ‘show/tell’ us

·         Strange Situation

·         Breaking the cycle – re-training the child’s brain

·         Synchronicity

·         What will happen in the Babywatching Sessions.

4 Sessions of Watch and Wonder and post session discussion/reflection. 1-1 and a half hours for each session

Session 3 – Observing, Understanding and Managing Behaviours (3 hours and a quarter)

Soothing, building connection and the skill of reflection.

·         Neuro sequential model

·         Let’s be curious and wonder about behaviour…

·         Regulating emotions: Fight; Flight; Freeze

·         Rupture/repair cycle

·         Looking after you – PACE model

·         How to manage stress

      Self-care – consider resources

      Skill of re-framing

4 Sessions of Watch and Wonder and post session discussion/reflection. 1-1.5 hours for each session.  Finish.
